My Future as a Medical Transcriptionist

I have worked in the medical field for eight years. I began as a receptionist in an optometrist office, then advanced there as an office manager. I really enjoyed helping people there in that position. I became familiar with medical terminology that involved the eyes with that job. I then worked at a hospital as a clerical support associate. I took a medical terminology course with the hospital to do that job accurately. I worked closely with doctors transcribing their orders for the patients and getting their entire test ordered and entered in the computer. I worked with the nurses making sure everything was done to the doctor’s specifications for each patient. It was while I was working at the hospital that I knew I wanted to do transcribing. I always enjoyed typing and working with the doctors.

When my brother had a major heart attack, I did a lot to help him during his hospital stay and with his care during recovery. After him having another heart attack, the doctors decided he needed to have a coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG. I was very interested in everything that was happening to him and wanted to learn all I could about that. About 5 months after my brother had his bypass surgery; my mother had a heart attack and had to have a coronary artery bypass graft as well. With so many medical problems going on with my family, I was starving for information on everything that was happening to them; I wanted to know what the best treatment would be for them. After her surgery, she developed congestive heart failure and needed someone with her at all times, my father was the main caregiver for her while she recovered. She had gotten a lot better but still needed someone with her, then my father passed away. SN:0MA9N2ESY

I had to quit my job to stay home and be with her, so, needless to say, I don’t have a lot of money. While home with her, I looked around to find out some good at home courses I could take to become a medical transcriptionist; I found that there are not a lot of courses offered out there. I found Future MT online and I really like the course they offer. I think the course is very in depth and would help me find at home medical transcription jobs. I would really like to become a medical transcriptionist so that I can do medical transcription work at home. I want to be financially independent and still be able to help my mother. If I can’t do this, then I will have to place her in a nursing home so that I can find a job. I would really love to be able to keep her in her home where she is most comfortable. I would like to start out doing medical transcribing myself and learn everything there is to know about it, maybe 5 or 10 years down the road I would like to have my own medical transcribing business and have work available for other people that need to work from home to help their families.
